SPACE TO PUT IT INTO WORDS
An expressive writing journal app for your own words
You keep replaying something from the day, but have not put it into words yet. Start with the part that stayed with you. Memoir gives that writing a place you can keep, edit and return to in your own time.
For iPhone and iPad. Listed as Memoiri on the App Store.
A journal for expressive writing
Expressive writing focuses on your thoughts and feelings about an experience. In a personal journal, the entry can be untidy, unresolved or different from how you feel tomorrow. It does not need an audience.
Memoir gives you a place to save that writing and return to the original words. You choose what to write, whether to add a mood and when to stop.
A possible starting point
I said the meeting was fine, but I kept thinking about the question I did not ask. I think I wanted more time to explain the idea. Next time, I could bring the drawing with me.
Write past the first description
Begin with the event, then follow the thought: “What stayed with me was…” or “What I wanted to say was…”. You might notice a question, a feeling or something you still cannot explain. You can leave the entry there without forcing a conclusion.
The composer gives you room to keep writing. If a sentence comes more easily aloud, start with a voice entry. The writing guide explains drafts and editing when you want to return later.
For a different reflection prompt, try “What do I wish I had explained?” or “Which part of the day am I still carrying?” Keep the question in your entry if you want to remember what started the writing. Browse the beginner prompts for more starting points.
Decide what to keep and when to return
Reread the original words when you want to revisit that experience. You can add a new entry about how you see it now, preserving both perspectives instead of replacing the first one.
Choose your passcode settings and keep an independent backup. Journal data stays on the device by default; optional iCloud Sync is a separate choice.
Looking for Pennebaker journaling?
Pennebaker journaling usually refers to a particular expressive-writing research approach. If that is what brought you here, start with the Pennebaker journaling guide for the background and limits.
Memoir is a general journal you can use for personal writing. It does not provide a prescribed Pennebaker program, a therapist or a clinical assessment.
Questions before you start
Can I use memoir for expressive writing?
Yes. You can write about an experience in your own words, save the entry and revisit it later. You choose the length, subject and routine.
Does the app tell me what my writing means?
The original entry remains your account of an experience. Reflection and Search help you revisit saved material; they are not a therapist’s interpretation or a diagnosis.
Is this an expressive writing therapy app?
Memoir is a personal journal, not a treatment service or a clinically validated writing program. It does not provide professional care or promise a health outcome.
Can I keep an entry without sharing it?
Yes. There is no requirement to publish an entry. Review the privacy policy, app lock options and optional synchronization settings to choose how you keep your journal.
