Start with one ordinary moment

Open memoir and write one thing you noticed. It might be a favourite sound, a family visitor or something you learned about being a parent today. You can add a photo without needing to complete a whole scrapbook page.

A busy week does not need catching up before you start again. Save what you remember today, or change the entry date when recording an older moment.

A little detail

You laughed at the sound of the paper bag today. We tried every toy first, and it was the bag that did it.

From my side

We went around the block after lunch. A very small outing, but it felt like getting a little of my day back.

Fictional examples to help you get started.

Keep the words around the photograph

Name what happened just before or after the picture. Later, those details can explain why an ordinary photo mattered. For first words and funny phrases, write the words as you heard them.

Choose which family details you want in your personal journal. The family memory guide includes ideas that do not rely on reaching particular milestones.

Use a journal that fits your family

Create a dedicated journal if that makes the memories easier to organize. You can use a child’s nickname, a year or a family theme. Keep your own thoughts alongside the moments you are recording.

Memoir is your personal journal, rather than a baby-care log. It does not track feeding schedules, sleep or developmental progress, and this workflow does not provide a shared family account.

Return to the moments as the years pass

Search for a name or detail from your saved writing. When your journal contains entries from matching dates in previous years, On This Day can bring those memories back. A new journal needs time to build that history.

Choose an app lock if you want one, and learn how to make an independent backup. Optional sync and backup have different purposes.

Questions before you start

Can memoir be used as a baby memory journal?

Yes. Keep written memories and photos in a personal journal on iPhone or iPad. You choose what to record and when.

Is it a baby milestone tracker?

You can write about milestones you want to remember, but memoir does not assess development or provide a structured baby-care tracker.

Can both parents edit the same journal?

This is a personal journaling workflow. It does not provide collaborative entries or a shared family account.

Can I turn it into a printed baby book?

Memoir does not create or sell a printed baby book. The export guide explains the export options the app provides.
