Devices and writing: do you need a browser?
For browser writing, choose Journey from this pair. Diarium has native Windows, Android, iOS and macOS apps, with no web editor. If an installed phone and desktop app cover your routine, both remain options. Diarium devices; Journey platforms.
Diarium brings text, attachments and optional feeds into a dated entry. Its integrations can surface context such as calendar events or fitness activity. That may suit a diary built around what happened during the day. Diarium features.
Journey combines a media editor with writing guidance. Its free tier has restricted photo uploads and excludes audio/video upload; paid options expand media support. Check the plan table before trying an audio-heavy routine.

Guidance: past memories, coaching and Odyssey AI

Cloud and search: one setting changes the choice
Diarium documents keyword and tag search. For Journey, encryption is a consequential setup choice: its help page says encrypted Journey Cloud Sync prevents Search and Odyssey AI. Journey Premium and Membership are different purchases. Premium is tied to one platform; Membership includes broader app and web services and has recurring or lifetime options. The published table limits free/Premium Journey Cloud Sync to 70 MB and 60 entries, versus 10 GB and 5,000 entries for Membership. Journey free and paid plans.

Is Diarium or Journey better?
Diarium is the stronger starting point for someone avoiding subscriptions who is happy with installed apps. Journey is the stronger starting point for browser writing and coaching. Compare the devices, payment and cloud mode you will actually use; neither is the better choice for every routine.
Does Diarium need a subscription?
Diarium Pro is a one-time purchase per platform, not a subscription. Your iOS purchase covers iPhone and iPad on that Apple account; Mac, Windows and Android are separate platforms. Include any cost of your chosen cloud storage.
Does Journey search work with end-to-end encryption?
Journey says turning on end-to-end encryption for Journey Cloud Sync disables Search and Odyssey AI. That is a restriction of the documented cloud configuration, not a claim about every type of encryption or every journal app.
Can I move a Journey journal to Diarium?
Diarium lists Journey among its supported imports. Keep the original export and test a small sample first, including dates and attachments. A documented importer does not establish that every archive, field or media type will transfer perfectly; we have not run that migration.
